Your post-workout beauty essentials
Written by Chelsea Tromans
Starting your day with a workout can be invigorating. Knocking over a sweat session first thing in the morning can leave you feeling energised and accomplished. But it can also leave you a red, sweaty mess - which isn’t ideal when you have to head in to work or have a Zoom meeting first thing. Rather than waiting however long it takes for your flushed face to calm down, turn to your beauty routine to get your out the door and looking presentable quick-smart.
Here’s what you need in your post-workout beauty arsenal to face the day looking fresh and fabulous.
Create a clean slate for the day ahead and remove traces of sweat with a cleanser. Try and wash your face as soon as you finish your workout to prevent your pores from becoming clogged. Look for a gentle cleansing formula that has calming ingredients to nurture your flushed complexion, such as Savar Luxury Face Wash which is enriched with New Zealand Manuka honey.
A face mist
Help cool down your skin with a hydrating face mist post-cleansing. Try Minenssey Hydrating SOS Mist. The easy-to-spray-and-go formula feels refreshing on skin as it delivers hydrating ingredients like flannel flower and probiotic ACB Yoghurt Dermal Respiratory Factor, along with white tea and calendula to help calm redness.
VTN Tip: Save your active skincare products for use in the evening. Your skin may feel a little sensitive post-exercise so it’s best to nourish it with gentle, soothing skincare formulas and leave those potent products for nighttime when your skin works to repair and regenerate while you sleep.
A mattifying primer
Struggling to keep your sweaty skin from messing with your makeup? Apply a mattifying primer before your foundation. Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Matte and Pore Minimizer Primer is a great option following an exercise session: it contains mattifying silicones to reduce shine and even out redness.
A breathable foundation
When your skin is feeling flushed post-workout, the last thing you want to do is trap in the heat. Opt for a lightweight foundation that doesn’t feel heavy or cakey on the skin. Napoleon Perdis Camera Finish Liquid Foundation gives you enough coverage to help conceal redness while feeling lightweight on your skin.
A cream blush
You may not want to look red all over, but a little pink flush on your cheeks will help lift your complexion. We love a cream blush because the formula melts into skin for a natural radiant glow and can also be used on the eyelids and lips for a quick fresh-faced makeup look. Our go-to shade: Napoleon Perdis Cheek Switch Crème Blush Stick in Pink Lady.
