Your lockdown pamper kit

Written by Chelsea Tromans

If we were to tell you a few years ago that in 2020 and 2021 there would be times when the Australian government would require you to go into mandatory lockdown and the only times you could leave your home were for essentials like grocery shopping, medical reasons and to exercise in your local area, you would have laughed in our face. But alas, here we are, living in a world where international travel is off the cards for the foreseeable future and lockdowns are a semi-regular occurrence.

However, even with this being the new norm, it doesn’t make it any less stressful being cooped up in the four walls of your home.

So, if you’re currently in lockdown or want to plan ahead for the next one, here are a few things we recommend you prepare in your lockdown pamper kit to help make your time of solitude that little bit more bearable.

A luxurious face mask

Lockdown can be lonely, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of a bad situation. Think of self-isolation as forced ‘me’ time where you forget about all the craziness going on outside your front door and focus your attention inwards on yourself. Popping on a face mask is the perfect form of self-care that encourages you to sit quietly and meditate while simultaneously pampering your complexion with the skin-loving benefits packed into your mask of choice.

Need some help choosing a lockdown face mask? We like Savar Gentle Hydrating Antioxidant Moisture Mask for helping soften those worry lines. The formula features seed oil to hydrate, soothe and moisturise skin.

Feeling extra indulgent? Alternate your masking sessions with Minenssey The Lust List Brightening Clay Mask. It has brightening ingredients to help revitalise a dull complexion so you can come out of lockdown looking refreshed and glowing. We also love the pretty packaging which features a limited edition design by The Lust List.

An invigorating body scrub

When was the last time you went to the effort of giving your body a good head-to-toe scrub? In our normal day-to-day lives we’re generally too busy to stop and allocate our bodies the same level of TLC we spoil our faces with. But a full body scrub is not only a lovely treat (and an excuse to stay in your warm shower just a few minutes longer); it also helps buff away any dry patches that winter’s cold temps have caused to leave your skin feeling smooth and looking radiant. You may not be able to share your newfound glow with the rest of the world just yet, but lockdowns don’t last forever, thankfully!

Our pick: Bean Body Coconut Ruff Coffee Scrub. The Arabica coffee beans in the formula provide excellent exfoliation as well as an invigorating pick-me-up to help you feel motivated to get up and shower even when you have nowhere to be. The addition of coconut gives the scent that tropical island vibe which can help boost your mood in the thick of winter.

An indulgent bottle of red wine

The good thing about a winter lockdown is that the FOMO isn’t anywhere near as bad compared to summer when all you want to do is be outdoors lapping up the sunshine. When it’s cold outside, the excuse to cosy up on the couch and hibernate is a welcome one. And the perfect accompaniment to a winter lockdown is a good bottle of red wine. Something like Robert Oatley Winemaker's Reserve Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, which has a full-flavoured taste with notes of black berries, dried leaves, and gravelly tannin should do the trick.

Good to know: This Robert Oatley Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with Chinese food, in case you were looking for some dinner inspiration.
